A heat exchanger transfers thermal energy between fluids without changing their phase, while a condenser is a specific type of heat exchanger that cools a substance from a gas to a liquid, releasing latent heat in the process. All condensers are heat exchangers, but not all heat exchangers function as condensers; heat exchangers have broader applications, including heating, cooling, and recovering heat in various industrial and HVAC systems.

A hot gas bypass (HGBP) valve redirects high-pressure, hot refrigerant gas from the compressor's discharge line back to the low-pressure side of the refrigeration system, often into the evaporator coil or suction line. This artificial load prevents the evaporator from freezing and the compressor from cycling excessively during low-load conditions, ensuring stable operation, improved efficiency, and prolonged equipment life by maintaining proper system balance and pressure.
